Learn About Our Programs

WELCOME TO WOMEN IN TRANSITION

As women are released from jails and prisons and re-enter society with little to no resources, we provide a safe environment to live in by building relationships with agencies willing to provide housing services while they are working on rebuilding their lives.

We use a holistic approach assuring  that barriers are broken to help navigate the restoration process. Women in Transition's work is measured by the heart of providing much needed services. Paths are created to secure a safe passage back into society.  Our focus is to mentor and educate candidates in need of life-skills development tools leading toward self-sufficiency. To support the journey to living productive lives.

WOMEN'S LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY

The Leadership Development Academy is a 20 day training program designed to help women transition from painstaking life interruptions to employment. It requires that women, at their own will, participate and complete a 4-week commitment of trainings. The trainings consist of several components. It begins with providing the participants with information about the resources that Women in Transition in collaboration with other community based professionals offer, including the understanding of what transition is. It continues with personal development, such as examining beliefs, goals, self-esteem and attitudes. In then proceeds with budgeting, situational responses such as internal/external responsibilities, and conflict management. It then leads to preparing individuals to enter the workforce by addressing: appearance, networking, job search, application process, resumes, interview process, follow-ups, and thank you etiquette. The trainings concludes with a cultural field trip and prize giveaways at the graduation ceremony. Women in Transition strives to empower women to improve their well-being and successfully reintegrate back into the mainstream of life.

The Leadership Development Academy is held twice a year. Please fill out this short form for consideration. We will contact you for the second part of the application by email. We are accepting 15 women ages 18-35 who will commit to 4 weeks of training for 3 days out of a week. This will be an exciting time as we prepare key note facilitators who will participate with us. If you are interested and are in the LA area please enter below and I will put your name on the list to receive an application.

PROP 47 RECLASSIFICATION CLINICS

Proposition 47 has passed. What next? Women in Transition is now working on assisting people with getting their felony reduced to a misdemeanor. Education, housing, public assistance, and other government aide is imperative to the progress of reintegrating back into society. The process of sustainability happens as these services are available. A felony record can prevent that process from happening.

Our community organizing efforts are at work. Many do not know if they qualify. To find out more about it please visit www.myprop47.org it may be the channel that leads to a door that could change your life forever. We are seeking volunteers to get involved in the work that we are doing to raise awareness in the community since Proposition 47 has a cap of three years. Volunteer opportunities are available at lisa@witproject.org

JOIN OUR TEAM OF MENTORS

We are recruiting for mentors who will join our efforts to support the challenging struggles that formerly incarcerated people face while fighting to overcome obstacles faced while on this journey to reconstruct their lives. Mentors can be a primary part of success as they often demonstrate relentless focus and strength. Mentors are not enablers but are people who sacrifice themselves for someone in need of encouragement and help push people to the next level of growth. Each mentor will go through orientation and training. We accept men and women.
